This email is a bit different from my normal ones. This email is a bit more personal, in that I am trying something new – building an AR. I haven’t built one before so I am also enlisting any helpful information you may have. So, here it
goes…
Before I get started, the pin on the photo is there to cover the serial number… you never know (the pin is a shear pin for my snow blower).
I have always enjoyed shooting, whether it was a bolt action or lever action
rifles. I never really hunted much but I did enjoy going out to the range and spending the day shooting. Even now, as I get a bit older, I still enjoy going to the range, but I left my bolt action and lever action rifles behind in favor of my AR15. It is just more fun to shoot, and with a few modifications, it can be used for hunting as well.
Recently, I decided that I
would like to build my own AR15s and AR10s. Not because it is cheaper (although it might be) but because it seems like it may be fun. And, if I am going to be building them myself, I might as well do it right and make sure they are quality but inexpensive as well (at least starting off). So far, I have only started building my first AR15 but I am already looking forward to assembling my first AR10. It might not save me any money in the end but at least I will have some quality rifles that
everyone in the family can enjoy shooting.
I bought the receiver pictured from Palmetto State Armory, and I have to say that I am very impressed with their product. The quality is excellent, and the price was very reasonable. I also bought a few other parts from them, and I have been happy with everything so far. For my first AR15, I decided to go with a basic
shorter barrel M4 style rifle.
I am still in the process of figuring out which upper, lower, and trigger group I want to use but, other than that, I am just about ready to start putting it all together. I will update this post as I progress through the build, and hopefully it will help someone else who is thinking about building their own AR15 or
AR10.
Everyone that I have spoken with seem to like dealing with Palmetto State Armory. They have great customer service, and their prices are very reasonable. I would definitely recommend them to anyone who is looking to build an AR15 or AR10 or if they are looking to purchase complete firearms and accessories.
We all know what the administration is trying to do with our Second Amendment rights, and I believe that we should all exercise those rights while we still can.
I will continue to update this post as I progress through my first AR build. Stay tuned!
Since I am a novice at this, do you have any suggestions on what I should do next? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading. Let me know in the contact us section or by email at Dave@PrepperDaves.com
