Carrying out Operation Northwoods
The operation was to be carried out by using US Air Force planes to stage fake accidents as well as crash into civilian
targets. Additionally, it would include the killing of Cuban immigrants, sinking boats of Cuban refugees on the high seas, blowing up a U.S. ship, and orchestrating violent terrorism in U.S. cities. The goal was to create an atmosphere of fear and paranoia, which would lead to support for a war against Cuba.
The CIA operatives carrying out these attacks would have been doing so without
any knowledge that they were part of a larger plot. They would have genuinely believed that they were striking against American targets for the good of their country. It is this fact that makes Operation Northwoods all the more chilling. If it had not been rejected, it could have easily turned into one of the deadliest attacks in American history, making 9/11 look like child’s play in comparison.
Repercussions of Operation Northwoods
This plan was kept secret until it was eventually leaked to the public in 1997 by the John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Review Board. Even then, it took another five years for the full extent of Operation Northwoods to be revealed. In 2002, the US government finally released all of the documents related to the
operation.
There are some that have linked Operation Northwoods to the JFK assassination. They believe that Kennedy was killed because he refused to go through with the operation. In the years since, Operation Northwoods has been cited as evidence that the US government is capable of carrying out false flag operations. Whether or not you believe the Government would carry out such
operations, it is nonetheless a chilling reminder of what could have been.

operation.
Q: What was the most likely outcome if Operation Northwood was signed off by JFK?

goal. However, it is also possible that the operation could have spiraled out of control and led to an all-out nuclear war between the US and the Soviet Union.
